Cleansing, Wikipedia defines this term as ‘the elimination of undesirable elements’. When you think about it, this could relate to anything – food, drink, people, clutter, even your own thoughts. Anything that you find ‘undesirable’ can and should be cleansed out of your life. But how motivated are you to make it happen?
Spring is a time when everything seems to come alive again. As I write this I am sitting in my backyard in Sugarhouse, watching my 2-year-old play in her sandbox while she sings all the songs she has picked up at school. There are birds chirping, flowers blooming, and lawnmowers mowing. Our neighbors have re-started their home renovation project. The sounds that could be annoying to some are actually calming and peaceful to me. The sound of a power saw and hammer means that people are alive and motivated.
This is the time of year when it is good to take a look at yourself and your surroundings and ask, “Is this really what makes me happy?” Everyone should, after all, have the opportunity to live the happiest and healthiest versions of their lives. They should be able to go through any ups and downs with a positive outlook and know that it will all be okay in the end. So what do you need to do in your own life to accomplish this?
How is your diet? Do you eat enough vegetables? They are literally the food that gives us life. Do you drink enough water? You should be drinking at least half your weight in ounces every day, most of it before 2pm. How is your social life? Does everyone in your circle love you and support you no matter what? They should. Do you have people that drain your energy and that you tend to avoid? It may be time to cut them out. Look around your living environment, is it free of clutter? Clutter can be just as draining as that dramatic friend who criticizes every move you make. How are your thoughts? Do you tell yourself how amazing you are? You should, because you are. Try to clear out any negative self-talk that may come up.
If you are like me, it can be hard to stay motivated when travelling through life. Between a family, a career, enough exercise, plenty of home cooking & healthy eating, etc., it can be tough to want to start a new project. But I know when I get to check that thing off my to-do list, I always feel better. So start simple when you decide to ‘cleanse’, you can work your way through all aspects of your life as you go along. This will keep you motivated, energized and full of life. After all, it is all around us right now. Make sure to take the time to notice and appreciate it.
